Welcome to Friends of
Brinton Park

Working together for Brinton Park

‘The People’s Park’ was presented to Kidderminster town in August 1887, to coincide with Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee of that year. Newspaper reports tell of a scorching day, where several thousand residents gathered for the opening.

Friends of Brinton Park (FoBP) is a voluntary organisation that aims to give a voice to local people, voluntary groups, and other interested parties, to protect and enhance our historic ‘Peoples Park’ for future generations.

‘I have felt that, while enjoying myself in my own grounds, many persons had no such privilege to enjoy on their part. My anxiety has been for several years to try and ensure the benefit of a Public Park to the townspeople.’

– John Brinton

In 1883 John Brinton purchased 26 acres of land and commissioned local architect J.T. Meredith to draw up plans for the layout of a public park.
